Gross and repulsive.... but TRUE

Watched a couple of documentaries in the last couple of weeks. Both were gross and repulsive. But they just showed the truth. I almost puked after watching the first one and the second one brought me to tears.

1.) The empire in africa
Have linked to the trailer on Google videos. This documentary has many extremely graphic and violent scenes. Some examples would be footage of rebels blowing of the head of a man with mortar, footages of people chopping the head of a man and hoisting his head on a stick, etc... Very very graphic. But, these are not footages from some third rate horror flick. These were real life events that happened within the last 20 years in Sierra Leone. All the events shown are nothing but the fruits of the seeds sowed by the exploitative capitalistic practices of western companies in Sierra Leone. The role played by UN in perpetuating the horrific practices is also shown quite clearly.

2.) Earthlings
Have linked to the documentary on Google videos. This documentary also has equally graphic and extremely repulsive scenes. But the bulk of the footage is necessary to prove the point of the video that humans are to other species what the nazis were to the jews. This is NOT a debate on vegetarianism vs. non-vegetarianism. Instead, it describes how we humans consider animals as "things" that exist primarily to satisfy our carnal and devilish desires. This is no different from the roman enjoyment of the gladiators' fight to death, nazi extermination of the jews, indian 'upper cast' domination of 'lower castes', apartheid, african slave trade etc...

I'd pray that you watch those movie despite their gross nature. It is important to realize the extremely cruel nature of the world we live in. Unfortunately, we all take the easy way out from not confronting problems by being oblivious to their existence. Not the right thing to do.

I belive, Darwin's theory "Survival of the fittest" holds good.

If man also is an animal then is it not natural that he tries to overpower other creatures?

Cruelty to fellow human beings and other living creatures, though, not justifiable, is atleast explained if you belive in "Survival of the fittest".

Ofcourse, you might want to question it. Then consider spending some time on Mahavira's teachings. Staunch jains still eat before six in the evening, use a very soft broom when they walk, are strict vegetarians and donot wear anything made of animal skin (including belts). And yes, these people donot harm animals in any other way. I am sure there more such things that they follow. But I am no expert on this

it is not about 'survival of the fittest' or any other evolutionary characteristics da... no other animal exhibits the characteristics that we exhibit... the characteristic of cruelty and devilish nonchalance to the feelings of others, humans and other species...
please check out the video... there is no analogy in the animal kingdom for what we do to other animals...

To be fair, there is no equivalent in the animal kingdom because of lack of power.

The real argument should have been.. With great power comes a responsibility.. the responsibility of civilized behavior of which we are really proud of and yet have difficulties in continuing to be so.

well true.. in that case we should'nt justify our actions saying we are also animals..
