compare (zen saying): when the master points at the moon, all the idiot sees is the finger!
A comment I got on FB:
'what a intellectually arrogant statement to make..."How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate
with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong.
Because someday in life you will have been all of these." - George Washington Carver'
My reply:
'No criticism, no matter how strident it appears, need stem from a space of arrogance. Though, many a times it could easily stem from 'holier than thou' attitude. Thanks for the timely warning.
But, I believe, you have not met people who insist on mugging up the yoga sutras as a way of spiritual progress; people who refuse to look elsewhere for understanding and discard all other means of investigation; teachers who make students study yoga sutras like one studies geography (which is about external facts) and not like philosophy etc etc. I do not think these people are necessarily striving and weak.'
