Most of us love playing with kids. The innocent and cute smile puts us totally at ease and helps reduce our stresses. We are happy to be in their company. Some rationalize this cuteness of the babies as an evolutionary trait acquired by kids in order to be nourished better by the adults around them. Plausible. But this statement would need more rigorous analysis.
What is important to note is that kids, at least really young ones, do not judge us and thats what I feel makes us attracted to them. To me, this seems to be the main reason why many adults are at ease kids and not any evolutionary trait that helps their survival. They do not care about our jobs, social status, sexual orientations and all such crap that usually separates one human from another. This absolute lack of judgement puts us at ease. Have you ever noticed this?
Notice how one is at ease when one plays with a child. Notice how one sings without any inhibitions? Notice how one does not worry about ones social / economic status? This is a valuable exercise as it helps us uncover all the masks we wear. When we interact with adults, all these masks appear. Imagine falling in front of a child. We will mostly join the laughter with the child. On the other hand, imagine falling in front of an adult. We usually make a fuss about how the heavens conspired to make us fall or we try to avoid eye contact with anyone and rush from that place (have you noticed this when someone falls from their bike on the road?).
Similar is the case with the master or even pets. With the master there need be no inhibitions as the master is completely non-judgmental (thats why true masters are tough to come by). Interacting with the master and analyzing the differences in us when we have similar interactions with others clearly demonstrates to us the masks we wear.
May we all find a master or a baby or at least a pet, and use those interactions to discover and later uncover all the masks that we wear!
